Water Vapor Injection Increases MPG And Horsepower

A few years ago I was reading information about WW2 fighters. Most of what was covered was miles per hour, ceiling limitations (how high they could fly), climb rates and other items that pertained to horsepower. A big boost in horsepower was attained from water injection.

Water injection allowed the timing to be advanced without detonation, also known as pinging. Detonation can destroy an engine but by adding water injection the flame propagation was slowed, the same as is the case with raising octane ratings, and the fuel was burned more completely giving a boost in power through more efficient use of the same amount of fuel.

Having been involved with driving race cars professionally and maintaining them for eleven others through my businesses, I had known about the benefits of water injection and had used a modified version on the cars for drag racing and road racing very successfully. In drag racing the objective is maximum horsepower for a reasonably short duration, but in road racing it's necessary to have maximum horsepower and increased fuel economy, especially for endurance type racing that includes multi-hour races of eight, ten, twelve or more hours. The less pit stops, the further you can go in a given period of time.

The article(s) I was reading were multiple pages long and covered the power increases and the advantages of those increases in great detail. At that time, and not until just recently, very few people were overly interested in fuel economy. One piece I was reading was three pages long and only in the last sentence of the last paragraph was anything mentioned about fuel economy. It said, "and the cruising range was increased by about 30%."

Cruising range, known to most of us as miles per gallon, has taken on a new and more important role since the price of gas has sky rocketed in the last couple of years. Many people believed it would go back down, but that has proven to be a fallacy and will continue to rise if all indicators are correct.

I resurrected my early prototype in the latter part of the last century, made some changes to the basic design to make it more user friendly and added it to our vehicles. Water injection is too complicated and expensive to warrant installation but water vapor injection, when properly installed, can and does take it's place. Water vapor injection has increased the MPG on all types of vehicles, ours and many others, by increasing efficiency. More efficient combustion increases miles per gallon and horsepower, the best of both worlds. But, if you use the increased efficiency strictly for HP, you won't realize maximum benefits where MPG is concerned. This is one instance where "either, or" is the rule.

The Lone Ranger Forms Alliances to Do Business Today

"The Lone Ranger is dead." Jan walked out of the room and I paused to consider that she'd labeled me as an uncooperative maverick. Her impassioned plea for me to consider doing business differently focused on the fact that tighter and closer relationships can ensure continued growth.

Like many Boomers, I enrolled in The School of Hard Knocks. Throughout my career, as an employer, employee, owner or partner, I integrated lessons and focused on improving my game without giving much thought to alliances.

"A strong alliance is greater than the sum of its individual parts," Jan said. Alliances offer a way for sole proprietors to grow quickly, I reflected. For example, networks can frequently be building blocks for future alliances because they expose you to market or product opportunities you wouldn't ordinarily encounter.

A networking alliance such as Business Networking International (BNI), encourages formalized referrals within its membership. Other networks such as Costco, offer member discounts on operational costs such as insurance, shipping or office supplies. Other networking alliances easily encountered include involvement in neighborhood associations, trade associations, local community/state meetings or forums and continual contact with a set of core, industry professionals.

The alliance you form could be simple; get your landlord to display information about your business to augment your marketing plan. Or, you might offer a coupon/membership discount for the purpose of encouraging referrals. Think about a professional network to which you belong or would like to belong. Consider the real benefits that you might garner from the relationship.

Is there information you need regarding political or legal issues? Does your business need exposure to market or product opportunities? One small manufacturing operation had the opportunity to be part of a national trade show at a fraction of the cost as a result of state alliance that they formed. Those leads developed into additional sales and new profits.

Alliance structures can range from the informal to the structured and complex. Fed Ex/Kinkos, for example, took product delivery teamwork to a new level with the most aggressive of alliances, a merger and acquisition.

A coop alliance lets two or more firms share in the distribution/marketing costs of each others products or the purchases of commonly used resources. Val Pak coupons are a form of co-op direct mailing.

In the last decade, supplier alliances have become increasingly critical to sustainable business growth. Depending on the firm, a supplier alliance can take the form of a strategic long term contract, a joint venture or a partnership. In either structure, interdependence between firms is created and both the firm and the supplier seek methods to maintain or enlarge market share, improve product offering and respond to market changes.

I returned to reality with a start. It was suddenly clear to me that no matter what type of alliance formed, a successful alliance requires hard work, continuing analysis of goals and marketplace conditions, ongoing and timely communication, resource allocation and a sincere commitment to a win/win outcome.

I smiled to myself as I assigned the Long Ranger the job of staying informed on the alliances that could best serve me going forward.

Golf for Free - Golf Club Jobs

Golf for Free: Golf Club Jobs

Working at a golf course can be a very beneficial experience; just the free golf alone makes it worthwhile, not to mention all the connections that can be made. Golf club jobs are perfect for teenagers looking to get into golf, retired people looking to keep busy, and anyone else looking for a second job, and some free golf. If you are interested in free golf, and are looking into applying for a job at a golf course, check out these typical golf course jobs.

Cart Attendant:

"Cart attendants" typically have the job of setting up golf carts in front of the clubhouse for usage, as well as washing the carts after golfers are through with them. Additionally, many clubs have their cart attendants carry golfers' clubs to their carts, and sometimes clean their clubs. If the course has a driving range, they are often times responsible for picking up the balls from the range. Cart attendants potentially can make a decent amount of tips in cleaning clubs, and shagging bags. Usually you need to be at least sixteen years old to work as a cart attendant, and have a driver's license.

Maintenance

If you are looking for more manual labor, there is also the maintenance staff, which works under the greens keeper/superintendant in maintaining the course. This job consists of mowing the greens, fairways, and rough, watering the course, and making sure the golf course is in good shape for play. It consists of a considerable about of labor, and I imagine could be very unbearable on an extremely hot or cold day, but the maintenance staff typically gets paid more than a cart attendant. Again, you usually need to be at least sixteen to do this job, and have a driver's license.

Beverage Cart Driver

In order to accommodate golfers who are hungry or thirsty out on the course, most golf courses have a person who drives a beverage cart around the course selling snacks, drinks, and alcohol. The "beer girl", as this person is commonly referred to, is typically a girl, and makes the majority of her money in tips. The beverage cart driver should be at least eighteen in order to serve alcohol and twenty-one if they are required to pour alcohol.

Ranger/Starter

The ranger and starter are the people in charge of making sure the pace of play out on the course is adequate. The starter stands by the first tee, makes sure the golfers paid for their round, and tells them what time to tee off. The ranger drives around the golf course to keep the pace of play at a good rate. In my experiences, most of the rangers I have met are usually retired men, but I have seen people of all ages working as a ranger.

Clubhouse Jobs

If being outside is not for you; there are plenty of jobs available in the clubhouse. You could work as a cashier in the pro shop, a cook in the kitchen, or as a server or bartender.

There are obviously many golf club jobs available; meaning lots of opportunities for free golf! If you like to be around the sport of golf, and are looking for free golf, apply to your local golf course for a job!

Bell Helicopters for Sale

If you're looking for a Bell helicopter for sale then you are sure to find a wide range available. Unlike companies like a Robinson, Bell helicopters cover a wide range of different styles of helicopter from the iconic bell 47 to the Turbine engine Bell 407 there is something for everyone. Looking for a bell 47 helicopter for sale can be a very hard task as there are so many models available. The first models were rolled out in the late 1940s so as you can imagine whether you are an enthusiast, an aviation history buff, or a newly qualified pilot there will be a Bell 47 for you.

Many people's first memory of the bell 47 was in the TV series M*A*S*H where the Bell 47 featured strongly. Due to this iconic status even old 47's can sell for up to $100,000. For day-to-day personal use the 47 is probably not the ideal helicopter but if you are an enthusiast then you won't find a better helicopter to spend your time with.

The turbine engine bell 407 is the long awaited replacement for the Long Ranger and the Jet Ranger with much larger Windows and a larger cockpit it makes for a much more comfortable helicopter. As well as a crew of two the bell 407 can carry five passengers in comfort. With costs for new Bell 407's well in excess of $1 million and an operating cost estimated at approximately $350 an hour after finding a bell 407 helicopter for sale it will take a considerable financial commitment if you decide to purchase.

Due to the high running costs Bell 407 is very rarely seen in private hands. The main buyers of the 407 tend to be charter companies and multinational companies this will ensure that most Bell 407 helicopters for sale come with good maintenance records and will be in excellent condition. Although the downside of this is that many will be in corporate livery and require repainting as part of the sales agreement. However if you buy through a dealer this can usually be arranged in-house.

Although we have only looked at these two models there are many more bell helicopters on the market.Once you start looking you will find a wide choice including jet bell helicopter for sale. If you take your time and hunt around you are sure to find the perfect model for your requirements.

Why FSBO Sellers Need To Consider Avoiding Real Estate Agents

A new study dated February 2008 by two Stanford University professors shows that FSBO listings make good economic sense for homeowners who are trying to sell their properties. The case study, How Much Value Do Real Estate Brokers Add examines the cost of home sales in the neighborhoods around Stanford University in the past 26 years. You may want to consider what a study like this in your area may find to be reality.

The professors, Douglas Bernheim and Jonathan Meer, used NAR data to determine the benefits that homeowners say they receive from using a real estate agent, and then attached a fixed dollar value to the bottom three benefits: MLS access, pricing information and help with paperwork. They arrived at the fixed dollar value by taking the standard 6% commission and applying it to the first $23,000 of a home's worth. The professors valued these services at $1,400.

Using average selling price data and average commission data, the professors calculated that the average real estate commission is $12,500. If the bottom three benefits were worth $1, 400, sellers were paying the real estate agent an average of $11,100 for the top three benefits: promotional services, negotiating assistance, and buyer screening.

Then the professors examined the NAR claim that a realtor could get as much as 27% more for a listed home than a FSBO seller could. If true, the claim would presumably justify using realtor services. . Instead, the professors found that FSBO real estate does not list or sell for less money than broker-listed real estate does. The study also showed that homes listed through agents sold faster, but stopped short of calling that an advantage.

The professors noted that real estate agents tend to encourage their clients to accept the first offer they receive. The professors' conclusion was that real estate agents, who collect commissions on sales, may be motivated by actions that support their own financial interests instead of those that support the best interests of the homeowners. In this relationship, the professors concluded, it is impossible to say that a quicker sale is a better sale in terms of the homeowners' interests.

This is not the first study to debunk the claim that real estate agents can get a higher selling price than homeowners can. The conclusions of the Stanford study suggest that homeowners would do very well to examine FSBO selling carefully. Since the initial asking price and the ultimate selling price for a home will be similar regardless of how the home is sold, the real estate agent's commission will come out of the homeowner's equity, instead of an inflated asking price. In today's shrinking-equity market, real estate agents may become a luxury that many homeowners can no longer afford.

This Year Make Your Own Halloween Costumes and Save Money!

Are you thinking of making a Halloween costume for your child's party this year? I expect you have your own happy memories of wearing Halloween costumes and going round trick or treating in the cold autumn night. Imagine the delight your child will feel when he looks back on his days of trick or treating and remembers not only the fun time that he had, but that his parents took the time and trouble to make his costume for him. He's bound to appreciate the care you took over him and he will certainly enjoy showing off to his friends and saying that instead of buying or hiring his costume his parents went to the trouble of making it for him themselves.

If you are not an accomplished sewer, it may be a good idea to enroll in night school and to take a few lessons. Otherwise, you may feel confident enough from reading thoroughly the instructions that come with your sewing machine and having a little practice with some oddments of fabric. There are sewing classes at local colleges. You don't need anything complicated, just the basics. The best thing to do is to keep it simple if you're only a beginner.

Here are some ideas of costumes which are always appreciated by children. The Wolverine X-Men is a good one as it is not only pleasant to wear, whilst a little rugged it is also a reminder of the superhero. The Transformers Bumble Bee is an update on the pirate costume and boys big or small adore this. The Classic Red Power Ranger costume with its many variations has always been very popular, and let's not forget the Deluxe Harry Potter Robe where you get to wear the cool reading glasses and the cape.

Now for the little girls. They always like to dress up as princesses so why don't you use the theme of a Pretty Princess Witch? This is a friendly rather than a scary witch, but yet she is bright and colourful and ideal for Halloween. The Scar-let Pirate theme also carries though to the girls as a Pirate Girl. This is a little scary, but nice to wear and should be admired by her friends, which is always important. Hannah Montana is possibly more suitable to your younger daughter, whilst the Tooth Fairy or Scooby Doo Daphne is amusing, pretty to look at and suits older girls.

To go on to make these costumes you need to decide exactly what fabric to buy. Cotton, as well as being hygienic is easy to wear and will last for many years. However, there is nothing to stop you from using synthetic fabric. One friend of mine even used a pair of curtains to make an outfit for her child.

Now you need to go out and buy a paper pattern. These are usually made out of paper and marked with the measurements to give you the correct size. Once you got everything together you can start to sort out your Halloween outfits to make many happy times for your kids this Halloween.

Power Rangers Costumes

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (PR's) are known to be individuals who transform or morph from ordinary human beings into powerful superheroes. It is a very popular series that most kids and enthusiast find this idea amusing and interesting. Who wouldn't want to live a normal human physiology yet can transform to extraordinary beings, possessing superhuman abilities when needed? The series made its first debut on August 28, 1993. After all these years, with 17 seasons, 15 series and 2 theatrical films, the popularity of Power Rangers never cease to go off.

PR costumes will certainly grab attention. They are simple costumes with lots of energy and personality. PR's operates in a team of five, hence, wear battle suits in five different colors, usually Red, Blue, Black, Pink and Yellow. The material is usually made of skin-tight material like spandex. Each of them needs to protect their secret identities so they wear helmets with dark visors. Some characters may possess extra armor in their suits or shielding for additional protection. Each ranger costume is identical except for the color of suit and shape of visor.

They are known to be rescue squads and heroes holding superhuman skills such as invisibility or super-speed. PR's fascinating legend is perfect for costume parties and Halloween, especially when you plan to go in a group of five. This is a fun costume for adults as well. But since this costume is really tight, it would be better to prepare your body curves. Oh well, perhaps this is what opaque visor is for-hide your identity. To make it more fun and interesting, you can name yourself as similar to the color of your suit, example, Red Ranger or Blue Ranger. Wear white gloves and white boots to complete the outfit. Carry a weapon or "Zords" like laser gun toy, since you can't just put on any other accessories.

The kids will surely love to wear this colorful group costume. Feed your kid's imagination and fantasy and let him be his or her favorite PR superhero for a day! Red, blue and black PR costumes are fit for boys, while yellow and pink power ranger costumes certainly bring out that girl power. Toy swords and/or laser gun toy completes the costume for your kid. Some parents may be concerned that this costume involves weapons, it is best to teach your kid not to use his or her weapon to fight. Advise them that Power Rangers never use their powers for personal gain or to escalate a fight. Tell them that Power Rangers are good guys and heroes.

Live you fantasy to be a superhero and get ready to morph into action with these cool and colorful Power Ranger costumes.

Off-Roading at Its Finest With the Polaris RZR

The notion that off-roading is bumpy, dangerous or just for motorheads couldn't be further from the truth. While off-roading by nature calls for a less refined experience, the sand rails and pre-runners on the market today give comfort and safety while still providing the rugged off road enjoyment so many have come to love.

Whether you're into fixing up and customizing your motorbike or ATV or want something pre-fabricated so you can just roll and go, there are many options to choose from. When heading out to the dunes or the desert, there are a few things you'll want to consider.

First is where to go. There are so many places to head out, but a few of my favorites are Rocky Point, Glamis, Sand Mountain, and Coos Bay. Once your destination is mapped out, planned and you're packed up and ready to go, your next step is determining your mode of transportation or enjoyment when you arrive. The reason I say pick a destination first, is it helps get you excited and amped when you have a destination in mind. In reality, it doesn't matter too much where you head, but it does help in terms of making sure that your are properly equipped for where you'll be off-roading. Two-wheels, verses four, a sturdy roll cage, helmet, gear and other accessories to make the ride safe and more comfortable are also options to consider. If you're going as a family, UTV's and ATV's are ideal for kids as they can still enjoy the ride without having the responsibility of maneuvering the vehicle.

When sourcing your options, in the UTV market there are plenty of quality rides to choose from. For speed, mobility and ease of access, many love the Yamaha Rhino. With a 660cc motor, the Rhino has serious speed potential. Another favorite is the Polaris RZR or more properly the Polaris Ranger RZR. Known for smoking other UTV's with its clutch kit and fuel controller option. Both are known for giving a smooth ride and greater mobility in the dunes. New on the scene is the Kawasaki Teryx 750. A blend of UTV and ATV, the Teryx offers sport performance with gas-charged rear shocks with reservoirs and an ample 500lb. capacity cargo bed providing lots of room for extra supplies and gear. Last, but not least among my favorites is the Raptor 700R, one of the most advanced sport ATVs to come out of Yamaha. From its Fuel Injected high-torque 686cc engine to its lightweight Aluminum/Steel hybrid chassis, the Raptor 700R has the power and handling above all.

Stay tuned for the latest and greatest in motorsports and offroad racing. Next review will be of Yamaha Rhino Accessories, Yamaha Rhino Performance Parts & Polaris Ranger RZR Parts.

The 1994 Ford Ranger

Perhaps the most prolific compact pickup truck is the infamous Ford Ranger. First produced in 1984 these trucks didn't take long to become the most popular vehicle ever from the segment they belong to. Ford boasts that they have sold more of these pickups than any other manufacturer over its 30 year history. One of the most amazing facts is that not much has really been changed in regards to body styling and power trains over their long history either. The 1994 Ford Ranger looks very similar to the original model with a few curves added to make it appear a little more modern.

The quality engineering that Ford put into making the original 84' Ranger was very impressive and the pickup remains one of the most trusted and reliable offered from any manufacturer. Competitors like the Toyota Tacoma, and Chevy S10 try to emulate the success of the Ranger yet cost more and still haven't obtained the same level of popularity. Another great highlight of these vehicles is the fact that they a plethora of body styles, power trains, and accessories available which make them highly customizable. As long as you don't need a full size pickup for hauling and towing extreme loads it seems as though there must be a Ranger model available to fit anybody's needs.

Under the hood there a few different options for consumers to choose from. The smaller engine is a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder, next there is a 3.0 liter V6 and finally the largest engine is a 4.0 liter V6. Most of the basic trim packages that are only 2 wheel drive come equipped with the 4 cylinder engine. Most mid-level trim packages that have either 2 or 4 wheel drive are offered with the 3.0 liter V6. Upper level packages and the special themed Fx4 and Sport models come with the larger V6 engine as standard equipment. The standard transmission for a 1994 Ford Ranger is a 5 speed manual with a 4 speed automatic offered for an additional price. The 4.0 liter V6 engines are only offered with the automatic transmission.

Trim packages available include the XL, XLT, Sport and Fx4. The basic XL package doesn't come with a lot of accessories but is still a more than capable truck. Expect an XL to not have power windows or locks, a tilt steering wheel, no AC, and manually adjustable driver and passenger seats. XLT models offer owners a lot more in terms of refinement. Offered for these models are a better selection of interior fabrics, AC, power windows, and many additional items. Sport models come with a specially tweaked suspension and the larger V6 engine for optimal highway performance. Fx4 models have raised bodies, custom Bilstein shocks, and can be outfitted with many accessories.

Fuel economy ranges from very nice on some models, to a little less than expected on others. The 2.3 liter 4 cylinder gives the best overall mileage with numbers in the mid to high 20 mpg range. The larger V6 however is only able to offer mileage a little better than most V6 equipped full size pickups. Overall the Ranger is a very impressive truck in terms of capabilities but doesn't offer a lot in terms of interior refinement. Buyers looking for a reliable compact pickup with a history of quality engineering seriously need to consider a Ranger.

Cameco Corp News Stops Uranium Price Declines

Just when the uranium markets begin to look dull - like they did in the 1980s and 1990s -
along comes bad news planting the seeds of renewed interest. In October 2006, it was Cigar Lake. In March 2007, flooding at the Ranger operations attracted more investors.

So when Cameco Corp announces bad news, this generally becomes good news for the spot uranium price.

According to Friday's edition of Nuclear Market Review (NMR), "The spot price held steady this week, in large part, due to the uncertainty created by Cameco's announcement late Friday that its Port Hope (Ontario) conversion facility will be shut down for a minimum of two months." The weekly industry trade magazine left the TradeTech spot uranium price indicator unchanged at US$129/pound.

News announcing the facility's closure for two months 'is expected to place significant upward pressure on the spot price,' according to NMR editor Treva Klingbiel. She estimated a 'minimum loss of 2,000 tU of UF6 production' during the shutdown.

Although Cameco reported the company has adequate inventory to meet its delivery commitments through the end of the year, Klingbiel pointed out, "The psychological impact on the market of this event can not be discounted, given historical experience with previous conversion disruptions."

Soil within the perimeter walls of the plant was reportedly contaminated with uranium and production-related chemicals. Cameco's conversion facility is located about 60 miles east of Toronto near the Port Hope (Ontario) harbor. Cameco Fuel Services, at 1 Eldorado Place, is about one-quarter mile from the shores of Lake Ontario.

During the previous three weeks, the spot uranium price slid because of weak demand and ample spot supplies. Klingbiel explained, "Sharply rising prices have led to budget constraints that have prohibited some utilities from participating in the spot market."

More supply is coming into the market, but not in the overpowering quantity some feared, e.g. five million pounds from the U.S. government.

Nearly 200 metric tons of UF6 was offered earlier this week by the U.S. Department of Energy for delivery by September 21st. This sale represents slightly more than 10 percent of the sizeable amount bandied about in the media a few months ago.

And some buyers are still active. According to NMR, "One non-U.S. utility is expected to enter the market soon to secure approximately 200 thousand pounds U3O8."

While the uranium market has been quiet, it is far from dead. A week ago, Klingbiel wrote that the underlying fundamentals of the long-term uranium market were instead very much alive.

And it's no wonder considering the realistic length of time many of the newer uranium projects will take to actually become uranium mines.

The Follies of Forecasting Future Uranium Supply

On Thursday, a local newspaper, Northumberland Today, reported rumors of something significant possibly taking place at Cameco Corp's Port Hope conversion facility, and which could also impact local residents. Cameco communications spokesman Doug Prendergast told the reporter on July 18th, "There's nothing major that's imminent."

The story's headline: Cameco Quashes Rumors.

Prendergast also said, "If there's anything to announce, we get it out immediately. Unless they (employees) know something I don't." Maybe they did, because...

On Friday afternoon, Cameco issued its third piece of bad news for the week, shutting down the Port Hope facility for at least two months. Earlier in the week, Cameco had announced another delay at the company's Cigar Lake uranium project and lowered estimates on gold production on another property. As has been the case with Cameco in the recent past, at some future point we should be greeted with 'further developments.'

Although uranium is abundant in many regions around the world, economically and expediently recovering uranium is not as easy as many 'armchair quarterbacks' suspect.

During this past week, we expanded our commentary about problematic uranium projects, present and future, in the world of uranium mining. Initially, we discussed several potentially 'tainted' major mining projects in key uranium-producing regions in our Uranium Outlook 2007-2008.

Our intent was to help educate many analysts and investors who have taken far too seriously the many forward-looking news releases and overly optimistic power point presentations by uranium mining company executives.

Take for example Citigroup's Alan Heap. Our Australian colleagues at FNArena.com often have a few laughs at Mr. Heap's expense, reporting on his seemingly misguided analysis of the uranium market. Out of pity, we sent Mr. Heap a complimentary copy of Investing in the Great Uranium Bull Market. We hoped he would more accurately analyze the commodity which his firm has charged him to accurately report upon.

Although Mr. Heap recently capitulated and upgraded his uranium price forecast - this time to US$100/pound for the next three years - in his early July 'Mutation to Uranium Utopia' commentary, his long-term analysis is lacking.

Hopefully, uranium miners will skip this next part to avoid uncontrollable chortling.

Mr. Heap wrote, "Barriers to entry for mine production are relatively low. Exploration and mine development are not particularly complex." As a result of these deep thoughts, Mr. Heap forecast a long-term uranium price of US$25/pound, sometime after 2010.

In an article this past week we warned, "Too much water, too little water, politics, greenies, economics, indigenous tribes, desalination plants, NGOs, camel trails, regulators and rebels are but a few of the land mines analysts face when hoping to forecast long-term uranium price peaks." We also cautioned, "The safest bet is seemingly against future uranium production."

We wrote this because developing uranium mines can be especially complex in today's regulatory climate. Having reviewed hundreds of presentations, filings, prefeasibility and more advanced studies and other documents, it is a tribute to the persistence of uranium miners that any uranium mining actually takes place.

Of the world's large mines, where we anticipated problems this year and next, we included Rio Tinto's Rossing in Namibia. In a news release this past week, the company announced Rossing's production fell about 400 metric tons in the second quarter - down by 29 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

In 2006, Rossing ranked third, behind Cameco's McArthur River and ERA's Ranger, in terms of uranium producing mines. This quarterly production shortfall represents about 13 percent of the Rossing mine's production last year and about one percent of the world's total uranium mined for the year.

Progress is taking place in moving uranium projects forward, but they are not happening as fast as many analysts believe. Mr. Heap did highlight in the summary of his report, "Mine supply is not responding immediately." No kidding, Mr. Heap.

In this past week's coverage, we pointed out some of the reasons why mine supply is not coming online as rapidly as some once believed. There are more problems ahead, which have come across our radar, and we are following up on these. Please stay tuned.

The History of Automotive Performance Chips

Whether off the line or up the hill, performance-minded drivers demand the most from their vehicles. If that's you, then you know how frustrating it can be to limp up a steep incline as others fly past, or suffer under excruciatingly slow speeds when towing heavy loads. Luckily, with modern technology, this is a burden you no longer have to bear.

The factory settings in your onboard computer are primarily geared towards a broad range of consumers, preventing high-performance users from maximizing their output. Over the years, tech manufacturers have invested heavily in the development and production of aftermarket performance chips, like Dodge chips, Ranger performance chips and the Toyota Tacoma chip, to recover this lost performance easily, affordably and safely.

Beginning with the space race in the 1940s and 1950s, the drive to make technology smaller and lighter gave way to the development of microchips and computers. Engineers and manufacturers across the board imported and adapted this NASA-pioneered technology, incorporating it into hundreds of products that range from toasters and microwaves to automobiles and dishwashers.

Similar to NASA rockets, the system in a car is monitored and controlled by microchips. These microchips control everything from the cabin temperature and radio to the automatic windows and-most importantly-engine performance.

The engineering and resulting output of an automobile has improved greatly within the past century, making small adjustments now more important than ever. That's why drivers who regularly haul heavy loads or tow boats and campers look to the performance chip as a means of recapturing some of the lost performance in a factory-tuned vehicle. Performance chips, like the Honda Accord chip, Pontiac PCM and Chevy chip, don't make drastic changes to the operation of your vehicle. They simply restructure the fuel system to increase efficiency and horsepower, working in unison with other performance-enhancing upgrades like air intakes and custom exhaust systems.

On average, performance chips take 5-10 minutes to program and no more than 20 minutes to install. Available in a couple different types, including chips that plug into your OBD-II port, located under your dashboard, or chips that remain permanently connected to your onboard computer, performance chips make adjustments to your air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and other variables to maximize the output of your vehicle. For example, they may supply more fuel at full throttle at every engine speed or change the spark timing.

In addition, by enriching fuel delivery to key areas, increasing transmission pressure, improving the timing of the pistons, adjusting the shift points and RPMs on a manual transmission, and controlling the vital function of the cooling fan, performance chips promote faster fuel consumption and greater horsepower, adding anywhere from 10 - 20 hp.

Collectible Action Figures - Is About Fun Memories And More Money

Superhero action figures first stormed the doors of department stores and toy stores nearly 35 years ago. Constructed of various kinds of plastic and clothed in uniforms, costumes and capes G.I. Joe, Superman, Spiderman, the Lone Ranger and others marched, flew and rode off store shelves and into our lives. After short stops under the Christmas tree or at birthday parties, these action figures found their way into toy boxes and playrooms around the world.

These action figures did their superhero work of incredible feats, saving scores of lives and neutralizing villains. They accomplished these heroic deeds on lazy summer afternoons and rainy Saturday mornings in front of the TV set. Too often, they also needed our help after school when we were supposed to be doing homework.

These superheroes were always our friends and they helped us through our childhoods. They taught us to share, to value friendships and that good will triumph over evil. Perhaps, most importantly, they stretched our imaginations and made us believe that anything was possible. These mighty action figures were invincible to everything but time. Time finally did them in. Or did it?

For more and more people, these action figures are returning to superhero status. The Star Trek crew along with Power Rangers, the Star Wars characters and transformers are popping up in offices, dens and family rooms everywhere. These action figures have become collectibles.

The most popular of these action figures include G.I. Joe, Captain Action, the Six Million Dollar Man, the Lone Ranger and the Mego line of action figures. These include characters from Super Heroes, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, Happy Days, CHIPs, Monsters and others. There were literally hundreds of different action figures produced during the decades of the '70s and '80s.

The action figures come in different sizes. Just as with other collectibles, size, condition, original popularity and whether or not the figure is readily available now all come together to determine price. Prices are all over the board. Some of these figures have been known to sell for thousands of dollars. Others go for a few hundred. Most are in the $10 to $100 range.

Action Figures Make Great Collectibles

How do you know what to pay? There are a number of sources for current price information for these action figures. One important source is toy magazines such as "Toyfare" and "Lee's Action Figure News". There are also dozens of websites that have pricing information. More good sources are the online auction sites, such as eBay.

The auction websites are also great places to buy these action figures. Numbers of these toys are sold on these sites every day. You can determine the condition, see what other people are bidding and then make a bid. The top online auctions are safe places to do business.

These action figures crop up in other places as well, just waiting for the opportunity to march into your collection. You can find them in flea markets and sometimes in antique shops. You can buy them from other collectors, at garage sales and estate auctions. There are dozens of toy shows around the country where dealers and individuals buy and sell collections.

You will find these action figure toys in every conceivable condition from mint in the box condition to pieces of the original toy. There is a rating system to help collectors determine condition that runs from condition C-1 through C-10. The very best condition is mint in box or mint on card. These toys are in the original box or bubble wrap card. They are in exactly the same condition today as the day they were first packaged. They are, of course, the most valuable.

One of the first steps in collecting action figures is to decide which toys to collect. A good place to start is with your favorites when you were a kid. Collections will be more valuable if you have complete sets. For example, you might build a collection of a complete set of the Marvel Comics heroes. Part of the fun is putting these collections together - acquiring hard-to-find figures in a set.

The next step is taking care of your collection of action figures. If you are lucky enough to find a toy sealed in the original box or package, leave it in the box. Do not open it. Display your toys on a shelf or in a cabinet where they will be kept dry, out of direct sunlight. You will also need to keep these toys above the reach of your own youngsters. They will be just as tempted to play with them as you were.

Finally, enjoy your collection. Owning these action figure superheroes will bring back many of the wonderful feelings of those carefree days before mortgage payments and college tuition bills. The dollar value of your collection is likely secondary to assembling the collection and enjoying its aesthetic value. Even so, your collection will almost certainly become more valuable in time, especially if you can assemble entire sets.

These action figure superheroes are reminders of your childhood and will serve to tell your children and grandchildren a little about whom you are and how you learned that good triumphs over evil. Somehow it is comforting to know that Superman, G.I. Joe and the Lone Ranger are still fighting crime and saving lives.

Barbarian Class In Age Of Conan

Taken straight from the namesake (Conan the Barbarian) of this new and exciting online game, this class will be played more than any other. The Barbarian has been described as savage, undisciplined, and brutal. Wading into the heart of battle this class loves it when they are outnumbered.

A Barbarian can choose to cut swathes through enemy lines with massive two handed weapons or can crush heads with a weapon in each hand. And when the time comes they can deliver devastating killing blows. They have many special abilities that come to play when they are outnumbered or surrounded by foes.

Barbarians fall under the Archetype of Rogues and can be of Cimmerian or Aquilonian descent. They wear light and cloth armor and depend on evasive skills and massive offensive assaults to kill their opponents quickly in battle.

Wounding a Barbarian only makes them stronger and more deadly. They have an arsenal of powerful attacks that can immobilize an enemy or knock them senseless. Like all other rogues they excel at stealth and sneaking and can ambush their foes. Although their stealth is not quite as adept as a assassin or ranger.

Seeing a Barbarian on the battlefield is a fearsome sight. They rely on strength, aggression, and a relentless assault. Unlike classes like the Assassin and Ranger the Barbarians don't worry about positioning and jump right into battle causing as much havoc as possible in a short amount of time slaying their enemies in as short a time as possible.

Devil's Peak Lookout

I had another whim to go hiking this past weekend. It was one of those things where I thought, "well I probably won't go hiking Saturday because I have football practice Sunday," but then the weather was really nice… you know how it goes. I did some quick trail research in the only guide book I have, which was published in 1969.

I should note that using a guidebook published nearly 40 years ago is not always a wise idea. A few weeks ago I tried to hike up Silver Star Mountain in Washington. The problem was that the road names had changed. Of course I should have looked online to make sure everything looked the way the book described it, but I was in a hurry to start the hike. Suffice to say that after two hours driving along the Columbia and through the hills outside Washougal, I still couldn't find the right trailhead. I found a trailhead—there was another guy there who was just starting so I asked him if this was the right place. He said he thought so, but that there was also another trailhead a few miles up the road. The problem was that my gas light had been on for about the last ten minutes (because I didn't expect to drive around for two hours before finding the trail). And though my car does pretty well on gravel roads, it takes a lot of gas to drive slowly and carefully around big potholes up steep grades. I laced up my boots and tried that trail, hoping it was the right one, but after about 1-1.5 miles it gave out. I tried another branch that I had passed earlier, but it led to a dead end as well. By that point it was 4:00 PM; I was nearly out of gas and out of time, I was hungry, frustrated, and I needed to get some work done. I went home.

But I learned my lesson. After I read about Devil's Peak in the book, I did some searches online and looked at maps to make sure the roads were there. I'm glad I did because the road names had changed. Devil's Peak is just south of Zigzag along 26 near Mt. Hood; it's easy to get to, but only if you know the right roads to take. The trailhead was not very obvious from the road, but there were a few cars parked there, and somebody pointed me in the right direction. The trailhead was 45 miles from my house, and it took about 90 minutes to drive there. I started the hike at 2:00 PM.

I spoke with a guy who had just finished for a few minutes as I put on my boots. He told me the views were great (though a little hazy that day). He said I was in for quite a climb. I like difficult hikes, but I'll admit I didn't expect the trail to be that steep. For reference, the trail starts at 1840' and ends at 5045'; that's 3205' in about four miles, or an average of 800' elevation gain per mile. A site I found online had this to say:

"The Cool Creek Trail is basically a rugged, steep, narrow, rutted trail that was constructed at a time when the objective was for fire lookouts to get to the top of a ride in the shortest amount of time."

That's a pretty accurate description of the trail. I was sweating and breathing hard after just a few hundred yards, and the switchbacks just kept coming. There were some gorgeous views of Mt. Hood looking north across 26 and up a tree-filled valley, but I wish the air had been a little clearer. I had to stop to catch my breath and stretch my calves a few times on the way up. At 1.5 miles the trail crossed a small spring. I let my dog drink for a few minutes before we started up again. I met one guy and one couple on the way up.

Devil's Peak Lookout is one of only six remaining fire lookout towers in Mt. Hood National Forest. At one time there were over 50, but today the Forest Service mostly monitors the forest from the air. When I hiked up to Bull of the Woods Lookout Tower a few weeks ago there was a small plaque with some history about it, but the tower itself was locked (I put a trip report for that hike at [http://www.adventuretaxi.com]). Devil's Peak Lookout was unlocked so I went in. There was a piece of paper tacked to the wall that gave some history about the tower.

It was originally built in 1924, but the current structure was built in 1952. After the Forest Service stopped using the lookout to watch for fires, it went unused and was heavily vandalized. The Forest Service decided to try a new approach: open the lookout for campers and let them maintain it. If people wouldn't take care of it, the lookout would be torn down. Their plan worked—I found journals going back at least until 1999. I wrote a small bit in the most recent journal. The couple I met on the way up had stayed there the night before, and they were quite excited about how clean it was. They were trying to organize a work party to go up there later this fall with new shutters. I think it'd be great to spend the night up there sometime and wake up with a light dusting of snow and a full view of Mt. Hood right there. My guide book says that on clear days you can see Portland and the Coast Range.

I went up Cool Creek Trail to get to the lookout, but you can also hike an eight-mile trail from the Zigzag Ranger Station. Hunchback Ridge Trail goes from the Ranger Station, up to Devil's Peak, then down to the Sherar Burn Road.

I think it took me about 2.5 hours to hike up to the lookout. I sat in the sun and ate crackers and drank lots of water while my shirt dried, then I started back down. My knees were screaming at me by the time I finished. My round trip took four hours, and it took me about 75 minutes to get back to my house. I'm definitely going back there sometimes—maybe I'll park at the Ranger Station and hike the Hunchback Ridge Trail.

This recipe should have your fish cooked and on the table in 30 minutes including prep time.

INGREDIENTS:

4 to 6 tilapia fillets or about 1 1/2 pounds

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup soft fresh bread crumbs

tablespoons melted butter or

1/2 teaspoon dried leaf basil

PREPARATION:

Heat oven to 400° and lightly grease a shallow baking dish large enough for the fillets. Arrange fish fillets on the pan and season with salt and pepper.

Add the butter with remaining seasonings and toss with the bread crumbs making sure the ingredients are combined thoroughly.

Sprinkle the crumbs over the tilapia fillets.

Bake the fish fillets for 14 to 18 minutes, or until fish is cooked through. Broil for 2 to 4 minutes to brown the topping. Fish should be flaky when it is done.

Carefully remove the fillets and plate. To make a complete meal you can add a few side dishes such as green beans and a salad.

This recipe serves 4 but can be modified for more or less people.

In today's fast paced world everyone needs a quick meal to prepare at home. This meal is simple and easy to prepare even for the novice cook. If you have not ever tried Tilapia before then this would be a great recipe to try.

10 Symptoms of Workplace Stress

It is no secret that stress and related disorders
are the most frequent cause of employee disability
(National Institute for Occupational Safety and
Health). As far back as 1992, a United Nations
report called job stress a "world wide epidemic.

Control of workplace stress is a leadership
responsibility. Good leaders who recognize the
symptoms of stress can control situations to
create more desirable workplaces and to improve
both productivity and the bottom line.

Corporate leaders who have served in the military
recognize employee stress when they observe
symptoms such as:

1 Anxiety

2 Indecisiveness

3 Irritability

4 Complaining

5 Forgetfulness

6 Loss of self confidence

7 Argumentativeness

8 Insomnia

9 Rapid emotional shifts

10 Physical exhaustion

Symptoms such as these cost companies billions of
dollars each year in health care costs,
absenteeism, accidents, quality control, personnel
turnover, and various interpersonal relationship
problems.

Some managers mistakenly try to control stressful
problems by increasing demands and supervising
details. Increased urgency and focus on details
typically generates even more stress. The problems
shift from slight distractions, such as back pain,
headaches, and inattention, to more drastic
reactions such as absenteeism and medical
problems, both good indicators that stress levels
need attention.

Just as in the Army, most business leaders must be
taught to manage stress and to observe for
negative stress reactions. All managers need to
understand the importance of positive stress in
maximizing accuracy and productivity. And they
need to know how to control the negative stress
for the benefit of those involved and the bottom
line.

If you don't have qualified staff in your company,
outside consultants and trainers can help you
evaluate current stress levels and train everyone
involved. Remember, stress control is a
leadership responsibility.

Mountain Lion Safety - How to Survive If You Come Face to Face With a Mountain Lion

The ability to view wildlife in its natural habitat is a true gift that can't be given by the local zoo. While mountain towns like Breckenridge attract outdoor adventure seekers and nature lovers, it is also lucky enough to be home to many animals, including mountain lions. While mountain visitors are extremely unlikely to meet a mountain lion, precautions should still be understood in the rare event that a sighting occurs.

Make Safe Decisions Early: Whenever you're setting out for a day of mountain activity in Breckenridge, take a few precautions that will help to decrease your risk of wildlife attack. Never hike alone. While mountain lions are not likely to approach humans, they are even less likely to approach a more threatening larger group. Children should always stay close to adults and never be out of eyesight.

Spotting a Mountain Lion: While they may seem threatening, mountain lions are beautiful and magnificent creatures. Tawny-colored with black tips on its ears and tail, mountain lions are one of North America's largest cats. While males can grow as long as eight feet and weigh up to 150 pounds, females are a bit shorter and lighter at seven feet long, weighing up to 90 pounds.

Mountain Lion Activity: As their name implies, mountain lions obviously make the mountains their home. While mountain lion danger is low in Breckenridge (your chance of getting attacked by a mountain lion is less than getting struck by lightening), sharing their home still means you should be prepared for a sighting. As with all wildlife, do not approach a mountain lion. Stay far away and give the animal an easy way to escape.

Taking Extreme Measures: In most all cases, your presence alone will scare off a nearby mountain lion. In the event that the lion does not escape, avoid your instinct to run. Running will increase the animal's own instinct to chase you. Stay calm and make eye contact with the lion. Avoid squatting or bending as mountain lions are more likely to go after shorter prey. In fact, do what you can to appear large by raising and waving your arms or opening your jacket. Throw stones, branches, and yell at the mountain lion in a loud, firm voice so that it begins to understand that you are not prey, but that you actually pose a danger. In the extreme case that a mountain lion attacks, do all you can to fight back with a rock, stick, jacket, or any other items you might have at your access.

Protecting Children: It won't likely be as easy for a child to control the instinct to run when facing a mountain lion. Similarly, since children are shorter, a mountain lion is more likely to confuse them for prey. If you are exploring the mountains with children and meet a mountain lion, pick the child up. However, try to avoid bending or turning your back to the mountain lion when doing so.

Contact a Park Ranger Immediately: If you come in contact with a mountain lion, immediately notify a park ranger to avoid further threat to others.

Remember, mountain lion sightings are extremely rare. Attacks are even rarer. Still, keeping yourself informed and prepared is the best way to travel through the mountains of Breckenridge.
