Glasgow Rangers

Glasgow Rangers were founded in 1872 by four men two brothers Moses and Peter McNeil and there friends Peter Campbell and William McBeath all from Glasgow. The four men decided on the name Rangers after an English rugby club after seeing the name in a book. It was in may of1872 that Rangers played there very first game against Callander F.C in a friendly the game was played on a pitch at Glasgow Green. Rangers went on to play just one more game that year against Clyde. It was in this game that Rangers wore the famous Royal blue strip for the first time, the game ended with Rangers winning 11-0.

The next season Rangers missed the deadline to join the Scottish Football Association this resulted in them missing out on a place in the Scottish cup, this meant the team could only playing friendly matches that season.

It was in 1876 Rangers had their first full Scottish internationalist Moses McNeil. McNeil one of the founders of the club played for Scotland in a match against Wales.

1877 Rangers reached the Scottish Cup final for the first time but were beat by Vale of Leven 3-2 in the 2ND Replay. 1888 the very first old firm game was played Rangers lost the game 5-2 to a Celtic side that was largely made up of players from Hibernian
