Popular Halloween Costumes For Toddlers to Teens

Although Halloween is several months away, it's never too early to start getting some ideas for what your child might like to be this year. Most parents realize their child will change his/her mind at least a dozen times before the Halloween season is actually here, but parents can still throw some ideas out to them now.

Every little girl dreams of being a princess; Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine, Aurora and Princess Barbie are some of the most recognized princesses that every little girl can relate to. I'm sure if you ask any woman if they were a princess for Halloween when they were a little girl you'll get an astounding yes. According to the NRF (National Retail Federation) for the last three years running princess has remained the most popular costume for kids.

On Halloween night little boys love transforming themselves into Superheroes. The classics like Spiderman, Superman, Batman and Robin are always a big hit for trick-or-treating. Today a lot of popular trends for Halloween costumes are geared toward characters from movies that are considered summer blockbuster hits. This year there are some new heroes and returning heroes that will definitely be big sellers for Halloween costumes:

Iron Man
Speed Racer
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The Dark Knight
The Incredible Hulk

Disney characters are always popular with children and Disney sure makes it easy with all the wonderful characters in their big screen movies and on the Disney channel. I'm sure all of us have seen Simba from The Lion King, Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Toy Story or a Power Ranger on our front porch trick-or-treating in years past on Halloween night. Last year some of the more popular costumes for pre-teen and teens were from High School Musical and Hannah Montana. High School Musical 3: Senior Year is being released on the big screen in October so you can bet that trend will be just as popular this year.

In a survey conducted by the National Retail Federation the top 10 most popular children's costumes last year were:

Princess
Spider Man
Pirate
Witch
Fairy
Disney Princess
Star Wars Character
Pumpkin
Ghost
Power Ranger

Whether your child wants a traditional classic costume or one that is based off a movie or television show they like, there are plenty of ideas for them to pick from. Have fun shopping around and enjoy getting them ready for their big night of trick-or-treating!
