Check out my modified canteen and cup mess kit. The best canteen and cup combo I've found is the US Army issue canteen and cup. What I don't like about the standard canteen is that it's plastic, which means it makes the water taste terrible, isn't as hygienic as stainless and can't be used to boil water. I've replaced the standard US Army plastic canteen with the only stainless steel Army-style canteen I've seen on the market. You can see the stainless canteens at www.uscanteen.com
